This week (Sep. 8-14) is National DSP Recognition Week, and we’re excited to celebrate and honor the 850+ direct care workers that are at the heart of the AbleLight mission! This group includes our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), Employment Support Specialists, Day Program team members, and those who support our Shared Living Providers. These dedicated team members bring our mission to life, and they are the heart of what we do!

Last week, we celebrated DSP Recognition Week at AbleLight by celebrating our finalists for AbleLight’s DSP of the Year award.

Meet Deborah, a nonverbal woman that has been described as cantankerous and uncooperative. That is, until AbleLight DSPs began providing her supported living services in her home.

In this season of thanksgiving, we wanted to take a moment to share with the world what we’re thankful for here at AbleLight.

There are more than 6.5 million people in the U.S. with an intellectual or developmental disability (IDD). Right now, 70% of them are living with an aging parent or caregiver with no plans for the future. What will happen to them when there’s no one left to care for them?
