Power in Possibilities: Ryan’s Story

When Ryan was young, his mom imagined the same kind of future many parents picture for their child. As he grew, their journey took a different path. There were moments when the future felt uncertain, but Ryan’s family remained focused on helping him build a meaning and independent life.

They surrounded Ryan with a team of people who believed in him and supported his goals. That support eventually led them to AbleLight.

Today, Ryan lives in his own apartment through AbleLight’s Supported Living program. With the guidance of his life coach, he continues building the skills and confidence that make independent living possible. From managing daily responsibilities to staying active and engaged in the community, each step forward reflects his determination and the encouragement around him.

“I was hesitant to be on my own,” Ryan says. “Then I moved into my place and loved it ever since.”

For Ryan’s mom, seeing that growth has been remarkable. She has watched her son become more confident, more social, and more willing to try new things.

Ryan’s story reflects the theme of this year’s Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month: Power in Possibilities. With the right support, people can pursue their goals, grow in confidence, and build lives filled with greater independence.
