Advocacy in Action: Medicaid Updates and What Comes Next

Staying informed and engaged to protect vital services for people with developmental disabilities.

Medicaid Long-Term Supports and Services (LTSS) provides essential funding for residential services, employment programs, and day services, vital supports that empower people with developmental disabilities to live independently, participate in their communities, and flourish.

As Congress continues to work on the federal budget, proposed changes to Medicaid could significantly affect these crucial programs. We now expect lawmakers to begin drafting a reconciliation bill with potential Medicaid reforms in the first two weeks of May. While full details are still developing, this is a key moment for our community to stay engaged.

AbleLight is working alongside national advocacy organizations, including ANCOR, to ensure decision-makers understand what’s at stake. We remain committed to advocating for policies that protect the dignity and well-being of people with developmental disabilities.

How You Can Help

If you feel called to take action, here are a few simple ways to get involved:

  • Learn More: Understand how these Medicaid LTSS supports people with developmental disabilities helps ensure these services remain strong and accessible.
  • Share Your Story: Personal stories can make a powerful impact on lawmakers. If Medicaid services have helped you or someone you love, consider sharing your experience.
  • Contact Congress: Use ANCOR’s Medicaid Action Center to easily send a message to your representatives or learn more about current advocacy efforts.

These actions do matter. Many in Congress are already responding to the stories and concerns being shared. When you speak up, you help protect essential services for thousands of individuals and families. Your voice helps move the conversation forward.

AbleLight will continue to monitor this legislation and share updates as they become available. As always, we are guided by our mission to wholeheartedly support and advocate for all people with developmental disabilities, ensuring they are loved, secure, and flourishing in their communities.

Thank you for standing with us.
