Raising awareness and ensuring a future where all people can thrive.
Each March, Developmental Disability Awareness Month (DDAM) shines a spotlight on the importance of inclusion, access, and opportunity for people with developmental disabilities. It’s a time to recognize their contributions while also recognizing the challenges they face. Awareness brings attention to important issues, and taking action ensures that policies and resources promote independence and well-being.
Advocacy plays a key role in making this happen. Medicaid Long-Term Supports and Services (LTSS) provide essential funding for housing, job support, and community-based programs, allowing people with developmental disabilities to live and thrive in their communities. As policymakers consider potential budgetary changes, raising our voices can help protect these services and keep them accessible to those who need them.
AbleLight is working alongside ANCOR and other national advocacy organizations to highlight the importance of Medicaid LTSS and the impact policy changes can have on people with developmental disabilities. Advocating during DDAM may include staying informed, sharing stories, or contacting your U.S. representatives to support essential services. Every voice matters, and collective action makes a difference in shaping policies that reflect the needs of the developmental disabilities community.
AbleLight remains committed to keeping our community informed and engaged. We believe our mission calls us to advocate for people with developmental disabilities when needed to ensure their voice is heard. Together, we can build a future where all people are loved, secure, and flourishing.
