AbleLight to Open First Thrift Shop in Missouri

St. Peters location will create jobs and fund local supports for adults with developmental disabilities

St. Louis (June 16, 2026) AbleLight, a national leader in delivering life-changing services that empower people with developmental disabilities to flourish in life and in their communities, announced today it will open its first Missouri-based thrift shop in late summer 2026. The 8,000-square-foot store will be located in Mexico Road Plaza, at 4122 Mexico Rd. in St. Peters, and will create inclusive jobs while also supporting local services.

“We’re excited to bring our AbleLight Thrift Shop to the St. Louis region, creating meaningful employment opportunities for the people AbleLight supports,” said Scott Wurzbacher, AbleLight’s Regional Vice President of Operations, who oversees AbleLight’s retail operations. “In addition to providing important job training and employment, every sale in an AbleLight Thrift Shop helps fuel life-changing services for people with developmental disabilities. From housing and job coaching to personalized support, 100% of profits go directly toward programs that help people with developmental disabilities live with independence, dignity, and belonging,” Wurzbacher added.

AbleLight currently operates 12 thrift shops across seven states. The new store will offer affordable secondhand clothing, household items, and more. Each AbleLight Thrift Shop employs people with developmental disabilities in more than 30% of hourly roles.

“AbleLight Thrift Shops typically become true assets to the communities in which they exist,” said Wurzbacher. “In fact, several AbleLight Thrift Shop locations routinely top the ‘Best Of’ lists for local retailers. The awards we’ve received celebrate more than great thrift finds; they recognize the heart behind our mission. We look forward to celebrating that mission with the St. Peters community,” said Wurzbacher.
