Recognizing the people and the purpose behind AbleLight Thrift Shops
AbleLight Thrift Shops are more than just places to shop. They are a vital part of our mission to support people with developmental disabilities. Located across several states, these shops help fund our housing, employment, and day programs, while also creating inclusive job opportunities. Over 30% of positions at AbleLight Thrift Shops are proudly held by people with developmental disabilities, reflecting our commitment to meaningful work and community inclusion.
From August 11th through the 16th, we are celebrating Thrift Appreciation Week, leading up to our National Thrift Shop Day celebration on August 16th. This year’s theme is I’d rather be thrifting, and we are recognizing the incredible contributions of our retail teams who make our mission possible every day.
Throughout the week, our thrift shops will host celebrations that include team activities to build connection, treats, prizes, and an abundance of gratitude. Shoppers can also enjoy special promotions while supporting a cause that empowers people to live fuller lives, including 50% off of all items on Saturday, August 16th.
One of our standout team members is Nicole, whose creativity and joy brighten every shift. Nicole recently made handmade bracelets as thank-you gifts for new monthly donors, sharing her talents and reminding us all of the power of inclusion.

We are so grateful to Nicole and every team member who helps our thrift shops thrive. Their work directly supports our mission and brings our values to life in communities across the country.
