AbleLight at the Ballpark: A Celebration of Inclusion

Keith Jones with AbleLight team members and people supported at a baseball game

For fans of baseball, few things compare to the excitement of a day at Busch Stadium. With AbleLight’s support, a group of baseball fans with developmental disabilities experienced two unforgettable outings at the ballpark.

The energy of the crowd, the crack of the bat, and the thrill of cheering for their team created moments of pure joy. While not everyone in the group could fully express their thoughts in words, their smiles and excitement said it all. These games were about much more than baseball; they were a celebration of inclusion and belonging.

Sharing the Experience Together

AbleLight took two groups to St. Louis Cardinals home games: one on Sunday, August 10, 2025, against the Chicago Cubs and another on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, against the Colorado Rockies.

At the August 10 game, AbleLight President and CEO Keith Jones was in the stands alongside team members and people supported by the nonprofit, sharing in the excitement. They watched as the Cardinals secured a dramatic 3-2 win over the Cubs, capped off by Nolan Gorman’s clutch hit in the seventh inning.

“Being in the stands with our team and the people we support was a joy. These outings aren’t just about baseball. They’re about belonging, and that’s something every person deserves,” Keith shares.

Just a few days later, the group returned to the stadium to cheer on the Cardinals once again. This time, the Colorado Rockies rallied late to edge out the Cardinals, but the excitement of witnessing home runs by Alec Burleson and Lars Nootbaar was a highlight of the game.

For fans in attendance, these outings weren’t measured by the score. Instead, they were about being part of the community, joining thousands of other Cardinals fans to share in the highs and lows of the game.

The Power of Sports to Connect

AbleLight has spent more than 120 years fostering independence and inclusion for people with developmental disabilities. The outings at Busch Stadium carried that same spirit, reducing isolation and building community while ensuring people of all abilities are seen.

Moving Forward Together

Inclusion doesn’t stop at the ballpark. Together, we can open more doors, create more opportunities, and give every person with developmental disabilities the chance to flourish.
