Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy is a highly customizable and positive approach to promoting behavior change, from reducing problem behaviors to promoting skill-building. A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) designs a customized plan to meet each person’s skills, needs, interests, preferences and family situation.
Your BCBA will meet with you and your child to conduct a functional assessment. This is the process of understanding the person, identifying the individual’s and family’s hopes and dreams and identifying specific objectives that can be measured to determine the effectiveness of the treatment plan. We focus on the skills that open new opportunities for the individual and help them learn alternatives to actions that may be keeping them from opportunities in school, home and the larger community.
At AbleLight, we are committed to offering supports regardless of the age of the patient. The science of ABA therapy can be life-changing for patients of any age, disability, and background
Each insurance plan is different and must be thoroughly evaluated to determine whether coverage for Applied Behavior Analysis is provided. Our staff is happy to navigate the insurance process and provide you with specific information on your plan’s benefits and eligibility.
This form of ABA therapy is a community-based program in which replacement behaviors and adaptive skills are taught to each client. Each client participates in 1:1 sessions with a BCBA, BCaBA, Registered Behavior Technicians or Behavior Line Staff based upon the individual’s programming created by the BCBA. Community-Based therapy must be recommended at the onset of services depending upon the needs of the client. Alternatively, once pre-requisite skills are mastered in the center-based environment, these skills will be utilized and tested for generalization in the community.
Home-based therapy provides a home-based program in which basic skills, replacement behaviors, and/or adaptive skills are taught to each client. Each client participates in 1:1 sessions with a BCBA, BCaBA, Registered Behavior Technicians or Behavior Line Staff. Home based therapy may be recommended at the onset of services depending upon the needs of the individual. To ensure all skills are generalized and caregivers can successfully implement the plan at home, some home-based services will be recommended.
A functional behavior assessment is designed for clients who may engage in behaviors that interfere with learning, are harmful, or are otherwise negatively impacting the client and/or the client’s quality of life. An analysis of the behavior of concern will be completed via caregiver interview, direct observation, and review of relevant records. Once the analysis is conducted, a support plan will be developed to address the behaviors of concern.
All ABA services include a component of caregiver training. For center-based ABA therapy to have lasting effects, parents/caregivers must assist the client with bringing the skills he/she learns at the center to the other natural environments, especially in the home and community settings. Parent/Caregiver education and trainings will be available throughout Behavior Services. Participation by parents, guardians, or caretakers is not only encouraged but expected for any program to be successful.
